Micklefield Hall Wedding Photography

You’ll find Micklefield Hall in the Hertfordshire countryside, just outside London on a 350-acre farm. It’s only 25 miles from the city, and a short drive from the M25 so super easy to get to, whilst still feeling exclusive, private, and secluded. Weddings are run by a dedicated team of event managers, with awesome catering and loads of flexible space for indoor and outdoor ceremonies – the gardens are gorgeous!

I love outdoor weddings, and the walkway to the garden temple takes you past roses, herbs, ancient trees, and fountains, it is one of my faves. If you want to make a grand entrance down the aisle there’s no other place quite like it! I capture Micklefield Hall wedding photography in my signature style, documenting your day with relaxed, natural photographs of real moments and emotions, framed with the features of this beautiful place.

Kirstie and Chris had an outdoor wedding at Micklefield Hall, although the weather was a little cloudy the gardens were still full of colour, and with friends and family joining them from all over the world there were loads of smiles and hugs throughout the whole day.

“We were amazed at how well the photos turned out because it had been very cloudy on our wedding day. Ben managed to turn out some incredible shots full of drama, sweetness, colour and joy.”

The pair weren’t confident about being in front of the camera, but the love and affection between them made it easy for me to capture relaxed moments of them just being themselves. My relaxed style is great if you aren’t into posing for photos as I’ll let you do your own thing. When we go for a little walk for your portraits you’ll be amazed at what magic I can capture, while you are just chatting and celebrating being married.

The day started with Kirstie getting ready in the bridal suite, while Chris and the boys were in the Groom’s Room above the 16th Century Great Barn. Bridal makeup artist Helen Cheung added the finishing touches before Kirstie had an emotional first look with her parents and grandparents, who immediately gave her huge hugs. Meanwhile, Chris and the boys were having a few laughs, especially when one of them bent their front door key whilst trying to open a beer with it… oops!

Kirstie’s dress from W Wedding London had a dramatic lace train that added a real wow factor to her walk down the aisle. I mentioned it earlier, but the aisle walk for outdoor ceremonies at Micklefield Hall is really something else. The long lawn lined with flowers means your guests and partner can watch as you approach with your bridal party, before walking down the steps and around the pond to the ceremony area.

Andrew Fleming Florist made the floral displays around the temple, with loads of lush foliage and white flowers cascading over the wall, tying in perfectly with ivy and the outdoor setting. The bouquets from Country Blooms added a little pop of colour too. I had my brilliant second photographer Tom with me to capture their ceremony from every angle, and I love the shots with reflections in the lake with all their guests gathered around, surrounded by greenery.

After getting married, Kirstie and Chris walked hand in hand around the lake and back to the steps overlooking the pond. Note to self: Don’t get too close to the pond… and thank you, to the guests who let me know just in time that I was about to fall in!

They had a celebratory cheer as they turned to face their guests from the terrace, a proper ‘WE DID IT!’ moment! Then it was time for a huge confetti walk with 150 guests lined up along the lawn right back to the hall, with drinks chilled and ready to be served by the smiley Micklefield weddings team.

Everyone relaxed and enjoyed drinks and garden games on the lawn and terrace, with all generations playing mahjong, croquet, and boules together. Meanwhile, epic wedding illustrator Aaron was working away to capture the day in a beautiful watercolour painting – it was great watching him work and seeing a real piece of art coming together (his bright pink bow tie and shoes were also a big hit!).

“His chill vibes and easy-going nature put us at ease. The way he does things means you can forget there’s even a photographer there, and can just enjoy yourself and be in the moment.”

Before their wedding breakfast, we took a chilled walk through the gardens. I’d promised Kirstie and Chris they could just relax and be themselves and the connection between them made it loads of fun to capture without them needing to pose. My signature laid-back style was one of the main reasons they’d booked me as their Micklefield Hall wedding photographer, and they loved the results.

“We look so great in the photos, despite not knowing how to pose or present our best angles. I’d highly recommend him to anyone else who wants stunning wedding photos without having to pose.”

Kirstie is an artist and produced all of the wedding stationery herself, so each table had an animal theme and illustration. They also gathered drawings from everyone as part of a little game, creating a keepsake day for them to look through later. The food was first class, Kalm Kitchen is the catering partner for Micklefield Hall weddings and they put together a fusion cuisine menu for Kirstie and Chris.

Speeches started with the bride and groom thanking everyone for joining them, and then there was a little surprise from Chris, he’d been attending evening classes to learn part of his speech in Cantonese – her parents, grandparents, and the whole room were very impressed!

After dinner I took the newlyweds for a short evening photoshoot, I’d seen an old wooden cart outside and gave Kirstie and Chris a few quiet moments to sit and chat there, while I captured some relaxed shots. Then they headed back to the barn for their first dance and to cut their cake made by Maxine’s Patisserie

The Supreme Collective played plenty of floor fillers to get everyone up and dancing, and the evening atmosphere was loads of fun. We were treated to tasty bao buns, and bubble waffles from Garbanzo’s Ice Cream which were a genius idea… who doesn’t like buns and waffles? Bubble waffles are a popular street food in Hong Kong, another meaningful personal touch for Kirstie and Chris. Seriously, I cannot overstate how good the food was… I might still be dreaming about it now!

Finally, Aaron The Wedding Illustrator revealed the finished painting of their ceremony, it was so cool watching him work throughout the day so I was excited to see it too – I think their reaction says it all! Amazing!

We had a brilliant day with Kirstie and Chris, and all their lovely friends and family. The atmosphere was great all day, made even better by the team at Micklefield Hall – a world-class venue, for an awesome couple!
